An Aboriginal Presence

Mandy Brown

Mandy Brown was born in Lytton, British Columbia. An accomplished basket maker, she has spent her life maintaining traditional Nlaka'pamux knowledge of food gathering and preparation, hide tanning and basketry. Mandy Brown teaches these skills to her children, grandchildren and other Nlaka'pamux.

She was a member of The Indian Homemakers' Association of British Columbia and a social worker for the Lytton Indian Band. She has also served as a member of the First Peoples Hall Advisory Committee here at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
