Science

When the Canadian Government took over the direction of the Canadian Arctic Expedition, the Director of the Geological Survey of Canada successfully urged that scientific research along the Canadian Arctic mainland coast be included in the objectives. Appointed to oversee that research was Dr. R.M. Anderson, an Arctic zoologist. The schooners Alaska and Mary Sachs were the ships that took the Southern Party to their research area.
