Throughout the building, the
architect's organic design and flowing forms challenged the
skill of the builders. For example, the copper roof consists of
innumerable sections of sheet copper, each cut to fit a specific
area of the roof. In total, the builders required 11,000 square
meters (117,700 square feet) of copper; according to a
Canadian Architect article (November 1989), the Museum
"has more copper on it than any other [building] in the
world."
