Make an Alphabet Book

Many years ago, parents and teachers used mail-order catalogues to teach children their ABCs. Today, you can use illustrations that appeared in mail-order catalogues between 1897 and 1962 to help your children or students learn their alphabet too.

How to Make an Alphabet Book

Print out the pages with the letters, pictures of an object, and the object's name. Cut and glue each letter, picture, and word onto a sheet of paper and colour the pictures. Staple the pages together in order and you'll have an alphabet book.

Please note: To view the PDF version of a document you will need the Acrobat Reader available from Adobe. An accessible version of Acrobat Reader which includes support for screen readers can also be downloaded. Alternatively, you can convert a PDF file to HTML or ASCII text by using one of the Adobe conversion services.

To extend this activity, cut out pictures from catalogues you have at home and glue them onto the correct pages.

To print:
Place cursor on the page you want to print, right click, and select Print.
